10 PROS ABOUT BEING A COURIER
If you have ever been wondering what it is like to be a courier; I have got just the treat for you! Today, I will share with you my top 10 Pros About Being A Courier in Jacksonville, Florida.
I have been a courier for more than 5 years, now working with a company called Lasership. In previous years, I have also done Uber, Uber Eats, Door Dash, Shipt, Lyft, and a couple other smaller courier services. I didn’t particularly like those services, but I have tried a few, and have found that what I do now, tops all of those services- – hands down!
I have a love-hate relationship with what I do for a living. On most days, I absolutely love it, and then on other days, I would rather be anywhere else in the world, doing anything but what I am doing. Be sure to read my post I did about the 10 things I dislike about being a courier to get a glimpse of what I don’t like about what I do for a living.
Today, I will share with you 10 reasons why I absolutely love my 1099 Independent Contractor Courier position with Lasership. Similar to an Amazon Courier; A Lasership Courier also delivers packages (both boxes and bags) to customers who have ordered online. All of the interaction is done via an App. and is very simple and easy to understand. So, without further delay, let’s get into this list!
10 PROS OF BEING A COURIER
- FREEDOM: Being an Independent Contractor Courier offers a different level of freedom than what the regular brick and mortar jobs offer. Not having to report to anyone or be micro-managed is absolutely priceless!
- FLEXIBILITY: Being able to attend appointments, or run errands is a great plus, all while I’m on the job – – making money!
- TAKE LUNCH WHENEVER: Also falling under the joys of flexibility, being able to take a lunch whenever you want is also a great characteristic of being a courier. Take lunch or not at all, the decision is all yours.
- SUB DRIVERS: Since you are running a business, there is an opportunity for you to hire employees to work for you, as sub-contractors. You determine their pay, work out their route, train them, pay them, etc… as you normally would do with any other employee.
- WORK FOR MYSELF – BUILD A BUSINESS: Being an independent contractor allows you to build a business. You are a 1099 Contractor, which means that you are not an “Employee” of the company, you are actually contracted, or have a contract with the company. So, basically the “Company” is your business’s customer.
- BRING KIDS ALONG IF HOME FROM SCHOOL: When times get rough and one of the kiddos cannot go to school (like during the pandemic), you are able to bring your children along for the ride or even take a day off work to care for your little ones without fear of losing your position.
- PEAK SEASON INCOME POTENTIAL: When peak season rolls around during the holidays, the income potential was bananas! But, of course it all depends on your grit and hustle.
- TAKE ADDITIONAL ROUTES/ HELP OUT: If you happen to need some extra cash, there is always someone looking for some extra help or looking to have a day off or light day. There is always opportunities to take more packages and make lots of money.
- NICE PEOPLE, HOMES, YARDS, DOOR SIGNS: Along the route I come in contact with some very nice people, with very nice homes, and very funny door signs and mats. A smile goes a long way!
- ME TIME, THINKING TIME WHILE DRIVING: Another great benefit of being a courier is that you have plenty of time to THINK. Sometimes is it so refreshing to turn everything off and just tune in to your own thoughts and feelings, or maybe even make some plans to get some things done.
So, there you have it. My Top 10 Pros About Being a Courier. On most days I am definitely about that “Courier Life”. Loving what I do is only part of it. Though I don’t always love it, I do tend to enjoy it more than I’d like to admit. Most of all the income potential and the freedom and flexibility it offers to balance work and home.
