So, as you know I have been a courier at Lasership for almost 4 years now. As I mentioned in my post 10 PROS ABOUT BEING A COURIER, I have a love-hate relationship with what I do for a living. On most days, I absolutely love it and the freedoms it brings. But on other days, I really wish I had chosen to do something different to pay the bills.

Today I am going to highlight the 10 reasons why I do not like what I do for a living. On the contrary, be sure to check out the opposite post I did about the 10 things I like about being a courier to find out why I love my position.

Without further delay, let’s get into this list!

10 CONS ABOUT BEING A COURIER

  1. NO Company Vehicle: Get using the the rising gas prices, because this is the first one on the list. Unfortunately, as an independent contractor, it is your responsibility to provide the transportation – there is no company vehicle.
  2. Delivery Rain Or Shine: No matter what the weather looks like, you are required to make your deliveries in the sunshine, rain, or any other inclement weather.
  3. Wear And Tear On Car: Using your own vehicle presents it own sets of challenges when delivering because of the wear and tear on your vehicle, for which you are solely responsible for making repairs to.
  4. Late Truck Delivery: Though this is out of everyone’s control, at times the freight arrives very late, and there is nothing we can do about. When this happens it delays our entire day.
  5. Increased Insurance: Yes, that’s right! You are required to carry certain coverage levels because of type of work you are doing with the vehicle. You are also required to carry cargo insurance.
  6. Fluctuations in Pay: Sometimes business is slow. When running a business you have to take the good days along with the bad days. Some days it will be slower than others, and the money reflects that.
  7. Shady Delivery Areas: There is no guarantee to which area you will be delivering in, and let me just say that not all areas will be clean, with clearly identifiable streets signs, or even wide enough streets for your vehicle to safely pass through.
  8. No Access: At times you cannot get into a building or complex to deliver a package, which ultimately affects your bottom line. Since, it will be not delivered, you do not receive the full amount of pay for the package, no matter how far you have come and will have to re-attempt the delivery on the following day, for even less pay.
  9. No Gas, Mileage, or Repairs Allowance: Unfortunately, this position does not offer any type of fuel reimbursements, gas cards, allowances for repairs, etc… All repairs must be paid for by you.
  10. Demanding on the Feet and Body: Being a courier is stressful to the body. Constantly getting in and our of your vehicle, taking the stairs, driving for hours, etc.. All of this can really start to tear down your body and make you feel a lot older than you actually are, that is why it is very important to pay attention to your body and it’s signs.
